Premier Artist, and Navan actor, Gerry Shanahan (‘The Best Offer’, ‘Product of a Nation’) has just finished shooting a lead role in the Italian/American Production ‘Age of The Living Dead-The Rising’. It is a 6-part TV horror drama for Netflix. The series is produced by Real Dreams Entertainment Srl, Italy and Oscar/Emmy winning producer Phillip B. Goldfine of Hollywood Media Bridge. It was shot on Mount Etna in Sicily over a number of month…s and also starred Estella Warren (Planet of the Apes, Kangaroo Jack). It was written by Adriana Marzagalli/John Real and directed by John Real. Gerry played the role of ‘Walter’, a retired army man who, with his wife Olivia (Fiona Whitelaw), tries to lead a group of people to safety during an apocalyptic event. He is no stranger to Italy, having appeared in many movies and TV series’ there, since his first visit in 2007 for ‘Colour from the Dark’. He has appeared with Donald Sutherland and Geoffrey Rush in ‘The Best Offer’, directed by Oscar winning director Giuseppe Tornatore, ‘E-bola’, Wrath of the Crows, ‘Edgar’ and many more. He also finished shooting the feature ‘Be good or Be Gone’ for Barbershop Triplet Productions in Ireland this year. He has worked with some of Ireland’s top actors, including Gerard McSorley, Sinead Cusack, and Colin Farrell to name but a few. A number of other projects shooting in 2017 include features ‘Full circle’ in Ireland, ‘In Articulo Mortis’, and another project for Real Dreams Entertainment in Italy.
Gerry Shanahan was born in Waterford City and started his acting career in 2001. He is the holder of a Private Pilots license and is an American Kenpo Karate Black Belt instructor. He trained at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin, and the Irish Film Actors studio in Ireland with John Cantwell, and continues to train with renowned acting coach Nick Dunning. He has also trained in the USA with Margie Haber, Crystal Carson and Mark W. Travis. He has appeared with many leading talents including Donald Sutherland, Geoffrey Rush, Niamh Cusack and Gerard McSorley, and also writes and directs.
Gerry’s latest movie, Ebola the Movie, in which he plays ‘Professor Gallagher,’ was screened at the Rome and Berlinale International film festivals. He recently completed shooting on Be Good or Be Gone and will commence filming on Full Circle in April in Ireland. He also has a number of international projects shooting this year including The Red Death and Say Nothing in Italy. His feature script, Relative Strangers, has been optioned by producers in the US, with Ludovic Bernard set to direct. Gerry is also associate producer on a number of other projects including Relative Strangers, Say Nothing, and Ivan.
Gerry’s short film Voices won a number of awards (Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actress) at many festivals.
