Project Description
Susie Kelly
Susie is an actor from Belfast. Born and raised there, she left to study French at Hull University, although acting had always been her passion, through school plays and local amateur drama groups.
She kept this as a hobby during her university years, until she was “spotted” by award-winning theatre director Mike Bradwell of Hull Truck Theatre Co, who encouraged her to take up acting professionally.
She received her Equity card (hard to obtain at that time!) with the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, working with their children’s theatre company, and in several main stage and studio productions.
She returned to Belfast temporarily to work with a new actors company, Stage 80, whose members included Marie Jones, Ian McElhinney and Des McAleer.
However, her plans to return to England changed when she met her future husband, who was based here, and so never left. They have two grown-up children.
Susie has worked extensively over the years at the Lyric, Arts Theatre, and in TV and radio drama, and more recently in the flourishing film scene in N. Ireland. She was also a newsreader and presenter for BBC NI and Radio Ulster.
She plays piano and guitar, loves gardening and is a drama facilitator with Open Arts.
