Pat has been an actor for many years, most recently appearing in Red Rock, Game of Thrones, and The Frankenstein Chronicles. One journalist recently stated of Pat’s performance in The Field that his “powerful monologue as The Bishop reinforces his lofty reputation as one of the finest actors this area has ever produced.” Pat has directing experience, has assisted with lighting and stage management over the years, and has also been involved in drama coaching, coaching a number of students for Drama Auditions – one of whom has gone on to take up a professional acting career and has acted in the West End.
As an English teacher, he taught many of the Classical English Plays up to “Advanced Level”, including most of the great Shakespearean characters such as Lear, Othello, Iago, Prospero, Caliban, Hamlet, Macbeth, etc. and has a great love of Shakespeare. Pat was also the driving force which introduced Drama to Abbey Grammar School as a discrete subject.
Pat was also co-founder and partner of The Abbey Press, a professional poetry publishing company in the Abbey Grammar School, Newry, where Pat taught English for many years (1968-2009), becoming Head of English in 1990. The Abbey Press was set up in partnership with his colleague Mel McMahon and Northern Irish poet Adrian Rice. They have published some 15 poetry books so far including the work of Michael Longley, Brendan Kennelly, and a work of poetry and art in conjunction with the Ulster Museum. In connection with this work he has carried out many public poetry readings.
Pat was also teacher in charge of golf in the Abbey Grammar School and they produced several professional players including Ronan Rafferty, Ryder Cup Player.
Pat also loves travel and has an apartment in Juan les Pins (South of France). He has visited the USA, Canada, most of Europe, Australia, South America, Asia and the Middle East.
